Wind Chill Calculator
This calculator estimates wind chill temperature based on air temperature and wind speed. Often cold temperatures can feel much colder based on the speed of the wind. That effect is called the wind chill factor.

FAQs for Wind Chill Calculator
What is a Wind Chill Calculator?
A Wind Chill Calculator is a tool or formula used to calculate the perceived cooling effect of the wind on the human body in cold weather, taking into account both temperature and wind speed. It provides a more accurate measure of how cold it feels, helping people understand the potential risk of exposure to cold conditions.
How much colder does wind chill add?
For example, if the temperature is 0°F (-18°C) and there is no wind, it might take over 30 minutes for exposed skin to freeze. However, when the wind is also blowing at 15 mph (13 kt / 24 km/h), then the wind chill temperature is -19°F (-28°C). At this level, exposed skin can freeze in just a few minutes.
What factors determine wind chill?
Wind chill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by wind and cold. As the wind increases, it draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature. Therefore, the wind makes it FEEL much colder.
Do you need relative humidity to calculate wind chill?
(Humidity does not affect the overall wind chill enough to be considered a factor.) The equation only works for temperatures at or below 50°F and gusts above 3 mph.
Does wind chill affect metal?
The National Weather Service Forecast Office explains that objects, such as metal, cannot be cooled beyond the temperature of the air, regardless of wind chill.
